What a great honour to judge the EAST MIDLAND BULLDOG CLUB OPEN SHOW.  I was looking for a standard Bulldog of correct size and weight with the soundness that is asked for.  I really like the quality in general, apart from some dogs that could have better movement, tails and I would like more length of neck not width of neck in several dogs.  If we want to improve the breeds health, we must look at one of the important points: the length of the neck to have better breathing and when we see the dog in profile, to have a better drawing, the bulldog is not just a front.  If we obtain a base of good toplines in breeding, then we will have more structurally balanced dogs and we will improve movements.

It is good that some try to correct inverted tails, it is good to correct it for the health of our bulldogs, although for me a bulldog is not just a tail, for this reason it was not penalized if I did not have two dogs of the same quality in front of me.

I am happy with the quality of dogs in general.

1st - SONNYKING JACK THE LAD.  Standard sized puppy. His head I liked since I saw him, his layback is good, nice eyes and dark eyes, ears set well and nice underjaw for his age, good width of muzzle. Well constructed body, straight front with good bone and shoulder, good neck, well barrelled rib and correct topline. Fine and short. His movement could be better so needs more training.  I put him first because in general he was the nicest on my eyes and for minor puppy class I am not looking for fantastic movement, first shows sometimes are hard for puppy.

2nd - GASHOLI POLAR BEAR DANCE. Standard puppy, more immature in head than 1. Wide flat skull with fine rose ears, good eyes and clear dark eyes. Head needs to develop but good bone, good length of neck. Correct roached topline. Moved well.

PD (4,1)

1st - BAGIBELI MARVELOUS MARVIN AT SEEHURST. Well up to size mature puppy full of bone and substance. Masculine head, with wide flat head between well set ears, I would prefer more neck, clear dark eyes, a big black nose and good width of muzzle and underjaw with lovely sour expression. Straight well boned front with good shoulder and tight feet and very good barrel of rib, I would like more strong from back but still has to mature. Shown in very good condition handled well. 

2nd - ONAHIA DEL ATLANTE CHESTER (imp esp) Not as mature as 1 but lovely type. I would like stronger head but maybe with time has it, good underjaw, clear dark eye. Well boned front, enough rib, good tailset and turn of stifle. Longer body that first but still has to end his growth. Moved well.

JD (4,2)

1st - D'OR WOOD SAN VALERO. Strong headed red/white dog, wide flat skull with correctly set fine rose ears, good length and depth of skull with wide muzzle, well defined stop, correct upsweep and wide true jaw giving a lovely sour expression, good neck. Compact body, fantastic front, good shoulder placement and straight front with deep brisket and neat feet, good spring and barrel of rib, held topline on the move. Very good movement and well handled.

2nd - KADREYA GALANTIS - Strong head with wide flat skull, fine rose ears and clear dark eyes, I would like more clean head for my taste. Well boned front but slightly out in elbow, good topline, a bit stressed and moved well.

YD (5,2)

1st - BAALZEBUL CUPID'S BEAU. Masculine fine wrinkled head with good layback, wide open nostrils and dark eyes. Well boned straight front leading to tight feet, enough reach of neck, good topline, enough barrel of rib and correct topline and tail set, well angulated back end. Needs more time to get more rib and mature, I think it will carry on getting nice placement in future shows. Handled very well. 

2nd - BRUNO AT CARRNAZE BRIGHT DIAMOND (imp cze). Nice head, correct fine rose ears and good layback, correct bone, straight front, good reach of neck, would prefer more barrel of rib and weight, I prefer better topline, good tail set and moved well.

ND (2,1)

1st - AVAWORD DEXTER. Standard red/white, wide flat skull and well spaced dark clear eye and neat well set ears. Big black nose, well turned up underjaw. Straight front with enough shoulder and bone, plenty of rib giving correct pear shaped body and good tail set, correct turn of stifle, I prefer better tail but I really don't care this point so the rest is very beautiful on my eyes, he moved really well.

PGD (2,0)

1st - BAALZEBUL EEEYORE. Compact well made dog, very dark clear eyes, heavy nose roll but does not impede nostrils, lovely width of jaw and upsweep giving correct expression. Straight well boned front and neat feet. Correct neck, correct topine but I would like more weight on him, the rest is nice and moved well.

2nd - AVAWORD ALFIE. Larger type than 1, dark clear eyes. Well boned. Good tacked on shoulder, well barrelled of rib, I prefer better ears, less wrinkles on head, little stressed but moved well.

LD (6,1)

1st - SAFFIENNA GYPSY KING. Quality up to size red with masculine head shown in pristine condition. Fine wrinkled brick shaped skull with dark expressive well filled under eyes, wide open nostrils, good layback, width of muzzle and underjaw giving correct sour expression. Well tacked on shoulder, neat feet. Lovely pear shaped body giving good outline with correct roach and tail set. Good angulation on rear. I prefer deeper chest and more stop on head this is why he was Reserve Best Dog. Moved and handled very well.

2nd - STELLVANA KISS THE GIRLS. Another quality standard balanced dog with clear dark eyes, correct ear set and good layback, well turned up underjaw. Well boned front, good shoulder placement and length of neck. Good barrel and spring of rib, lost to one on front movement on the day.

OD (6,5)

1st - MYSTIC POWER OF JASON AT ALANABULL. Good jaw, nice eyes and dark, ears set well, needs more neck to help see a better picture when is on profile. Good bone and straight, correct topline, good back end, moved well.

VD/B (3,2)

1st - SHIPSHAPE SHOOTING STAR. 7 yrs old red/white of excellent type shown in pristine condition. Good length of skull and width of muzzle giving classic brick shaped appearance clear dark eyes and wide open nostrils, tremendous upsweep with true wide jaw, giving typical sour expression. Massive boned straight front, enough reach of neck and huge well barrelled rib, with good tail set. Good movement and handled very well. Best Veteran.

1st - WILSONPRIDE LOVE IS THE LAW. Caught my eye as she entered the ring and did not disappoint when I went over her. Beautiful front, very feminine body and head, balanced feminine head with good pigmentation, clear dark eyes and very good layback. Good width of muzzle and turn up, fine well set ears. Straight well boned front and neat feet. Enough shoulder, good reach of neck, lovely pear shaped body, moved very well around the ring and handler fantastic. I want to see her in next 6 months how goes, I will follow her steps. I gave her Best Puppy, Best Bitch and Reserve Best in Show.

2nd - GASHOLI STARLIGHT EVIE. Another quality puppy with good length of skull, wide flat head and correct ear set. Beautiful dark expressive eyes. Wide open nostrils. Good width of jaw, well boned front and good shoulder. Less mature than 1st. I think when she gets more body with time will be a fantastic bitch. Moved very well and handler very good.

PB (5,2)

1st - BAGIBELI DANCING QUEEN. Quality bitch with a lovely head-piece. Excellent width of skull, neat ears, good eye shape and colour, just the right amount of roll, correct in the mouth and excellent sweep of underjaw. Stands on a true front with tight feet, good shoulders and strong, correct spring of rib and strong topline. Parellel and true in the rear and well muscled. This bitch moves cleanly when viewed from all angles. Reserve Best Puppy and Reserve Best Bitch.

2nd - ANDLARE IFS AND BUTS. Quality head-piece and correct expression. Stands true in front with tight feet and the right amount of bone. Good width of chest, nice spring of rib and correct amount of tuck up. Turned out in good coat and condition. I put her second because first one got better topline and she have stronger backend and better tail. Moves soundly and well handled.

JB (8,1)

1st - AVAWORD DOTTIE. Quality head-piece. Lovely width of skull, neat ears, nice dark eye, just the right amount of roll and an excellent sweep of underjaw. Firm in the neck with correct shoulders. Stands true in front with nice tight feet, excellent spring of rib and the right amount of tuck up. Correct topline and tail set and stands on a true, well muscled rear. Moves out cleanly both coming and going, producing a great free moving side gait.

2nd - ROSEBULLS HETTIE. Lovely feminine red and white. Stands true in front with good feet, excellent width of chest and depth of body. Firm in the neck leading to good shoulders. Quality head-piece with a nice dark eye and correct bite. Good spring of rib, excellent tuck up and topline and stands true and parallel behind. Good handler for 9 years old, sure next time will be better handling and more sure of him, great future if he keeps working. Moves correctly both coming and going.

YB (4,2)

1st - ANDLARE MISS FIRE AT ALBIONPRIDE.  Red and white quality female, excelling in head with good width between neat ears, nice dark eye, correct amount of roll over the nose and good width and sweep of underjaw. Nice strong neck leading to correct shoulders and excellent front and feet. Nice spring of rib, good topline and tail set and just the right amount of tuck up. Strong and parallel in the rear and well muscled. Super clean on the move both coming and going and produces an effortless side gait. I would like less wrinkle above the nose. Turned out in excellent coat and condition and handled to perfection.

2nd - BLONDELLO CAPTAIN MARVEL. White bitch excelling in type, just love the head-piece. Lovely width between the ears, darkest of eyes, good width and sweep of underjaw and super pigment. Stands true in front with great feet, nice width of chest and excellent neck and shoulders. I would like more rib and substance in general but she is a feminine bitch in every point. Excellent tuck up and correct in topline. Moved well and handled good. Quality youngster turned out in great coat and condition. 

NB (4,0)

1st - AVAWORD YOKO. Red/white with classic brick shaped head and clear dark expressive eyes. Fine wrinkle head with correct layback and good length of foreface. Lovely turn up giving correct sour expression. Well boned front with good depth of brisket. I prefer more rib ending on shoulders. Correct tail set. Moved and handled very well.

2nd - LINDA CALLEJACAN. Red/white well balanced feminine head with dark eye, jaw is not good as first one. Good layback and well set ears, correct turn up, good reach of neck, well barrelled rib. Little stressed but with more training sure will do it perfect next time. Moved very well. 

PGB (2,0)

1st - GASHOLI STARLIGHT GRACIE. Red and white feminine bitch standing on a super front with great feet. Nice width of chest and correct neck and shoulders. Quality head-piece with good width between neat ears, dark eye with correct shape, just the right amount of roll over the nose, with good width and turn up of underjaw. Nice spring of rib, correct amount of tuck up. I would like better topline but isn't bad. Moves out with purpose and is true both coming and going.

2nd - AVAWORD SHIRA. Stands on good front with correct chest. Nice head with the right expression, good jaw and correct in shoulder with a good spring of rib. Strong and firm through the rear and in lovely coat and condition. I prefer better topline and head from 1st, she didn't move better than 1st and she was stressed, sure with less stress she would have better movement. Handler got hard work and sure will manage her better next time. 

OB (8,4)

1st - AVAWORD LILLIE. Quality feminine bitch of correct type and size. Super head with a great expression, good width of skull, neat ears, nice dark eye of correct shape, correct in the mouth and lovely width and sweep of underjaw. Correct in neck and shoulder and stands on a true front with nice tight feet. Good width and depth of chest, lovely spring of rib and just the right amount of tuck up, short and compact body with a firm topline and correct tail set. Stands true in the rear, firm and well muscled and turned out in super coat and condition. Very good movement and well handled. 

2nd - ROSEBULL I AM DELORES.  White and red bitch of lovely type. Excellent head-piece producing a super expression. Stands true in front with tight feet and the right amount of bone. Correct in shoulders and strong in the neck, good spring of rib and correct tuck up. Strong in topline with a good tail set and a nice parallel rear, which is well muscled. Excels on the move both coming and going and turned out in super condition.  It was hard to decide who to put first and second, just the presentation was better from 1st one on the day. Again the boy of 9 years old did what he could but sure next time will be better handled and great future for this female.
